Overview
This workshop will introduce teachers to the Science of Reading and its implications for the classroom.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will explore research and evidence-based practices that underpin effective reading instruction in the junior classes and for older, struggling readers.
Through presentations and hands-on activities, participants will gain an understanding of the cognitive processes involved in learning to read.
Target audience: Junior Infants to 2nd Class and Special Education Teachers.
Facilitator bio: Deirdre O’Toole is a primary school teacher from Co. Meath. She has a keen interest in early literacy and is currently studying for her PhD in the area. She runs the Instagram page ‘Playful Classroom’ and the Facebook group, ‘Science of Reading Discussion for Irish Teachers’. Deirdre was the winner of the ‘Science of Reading Teacher of the Year 2023’ award by Nessy Learning.
